The Computing and Electronic Youth Clubs are a network of technical centers that were opened on September 8, 1987 as an initiative of our Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro to contribute to the socialization and computerization of the Cuban society.

Emergence context

The idea of the Youth Computing Clubs came out during the celebration of an exhibition of the Youth Technical Brigades (BTJ, Spanish acronyms) in the summer of 1987 at the Pabellon Cuba, in the capital of the country. For the first time a lot children were in front of a computer. So the interest for these machines grow bigger and bigger in kids of all ages who visited the place to interact with the intelligent keyboards. In just two months there were more than 35 000 visitors, mainly youngsters and children as a good evidence of its acceptance.

Our Commander in Chief, Fidel knew and realized of  the things happening at the Pabellon Cuba with the computers, as a result of the big success, once the exhibition was finished  it was assessed the possibility of extending the idea to the rest of the country. This way, during a meeting with the National Bureau of the Cuban Communist League (UJC, Spanish acronym), the Computing and Electronic Youth Clubs were created on September 8, 1987.   in order to provide the Cuban society with a computing culture, prioritizing the children and youngsters acquisition of values within such a process.

That day our Fidel, with his vision of the future stated: “ .......The Youth Club of the factories, of the institutions and Popular Youth Club, because there they are, close to the people, this clubs are like the family doctor, the computer of the family”…

Present days

After more than twenty years of work, there are more than 600 facilities in all the municipal areas of the country, and we are still working  to improve our tasks in several respects such as:

  • To be a reference center for the computerization process of the Cuban society, playing an important role in the social and cultural life of the community.
  • To achieve a high level of efficiency and quality in the services we offer, with a wide range of adaptability to the surroundings.
  • To be a source of pleasure for the workers of our centers, where they feel useful and have possibilities of individual development.
  • To constantly improve all the working process within our centers, strengthening cohesion between all the elements of the system.
  • To make the workers active agents of the change, thus gaining space in this respect.
  • To increase the level of  identification of the workers with the goals and perspectives of the organization, thus guaranteeing  the stability of the workforce.
